He lived like that for 6 months and communicated by eye blinks, which is how they knew he was cognizant and completely aware. There is a new movie out (I haven't seen it yet) made in France, called "The Butterfly and the Bell Jar" (I think) about a man who wrote an entire book with only the use of one eyelid that moved after he had a stroke. Although this seems like torture to me, I am always amazed at the human spirit/psyche/soul that overcomes adversities like this. If we do have a soul that was imparted at birth, is it changed by a lifetime of experience? Or is it something that goes back to its original "clean" existence? Hmmm. Buz's alter ego. And what a writer, too! I feel so proud that I was the one who turned Buz on to the Ender's Game series, because it has just continued to expand in our family. So maybe none of my thoughts are original, after all! That's OK, though, I don't mind having some of my personal philosophy come from wonderful writers like OSC.
